Northeast
About this Region
The Northeast: a stunning combination of glaciated geography, small-town history, and major American Cities. Though perhaps most famous for long winters, humid summers, and hardy sarcasm, New England is a hotbed of environmental activity. With three of the biggest cities in the country juxtaposed with large rural populations, the Northeast has every type of environmentalist imaginable. The youth movement is strong and getting stronger, with college and high school students embracing the sustainability movement and building stronger communities.
With clubs in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts, the YMCA Earth Service Corps has begun to take root and engage the many motivated and environmentally concerned teens. Posting a strong showing in the annual World Series of Birding, Pennsylvania YESC students have proven year after year that their birding skills are not to be taken lightly.
