Southeast
About this Region
Boasting everything from Cajun cooking to coca-cola, hurricanes to tornadoes, and cherry blossoms to peat bogs, the Southeast has it all. A political hub defined by such extremes as soda pop, grits, and public television, the coastal climate of the Southeast brings on some incredible diversity, bizarre species, and the nations most comprehensive environmental restoration project to date.
Protected by the government and giant bone crushing alligators, the Florida Everglades are one of the best known wetlands in the world. The Everglades, which are shaped by extreme flooding and a fire burning dry season, have historically been plagued with issues surrounding contamination, run off, and invasive species. However, with the recognition of the unique environment, efforts have been made to repair the soggy habitat and protect the native reptiles. Look to our clubs in Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina to lead the way in protecting our Southeastern ecosystems!
